The United States ranks worse than almost all similarly wealthy nations in traffic safety. In 2019, the population-based death rate in the United States was the highest among the 29 high-income countries and was 2.3 times the average rate of the 28 other high-income countries.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2022, more bicyclists died than in any other year since the agency began collecting data in 1975 and more pedestrians died than in any year since 1981. You can find more information under the topic Traffic Safety.
